Why don't these people fear the people more? The heavily armed population even? They legislate without fear it seems.

I suggest the following solution:
To any politician or public official that infringes on our Constitutional rights:

1st Notice:
Written notification - you WILL be held accountable for your actions and subject to consequences.

No effect - then the "2nd notice":
Something akin to the movie mogul scene from the Godfather comes to mind.

Still no results? Then the 3rd notice:
There is no 3rd noticeWink

Because the people have become complacent. The people sit back and take it. The people are sheep. And I have always attempted to be a good sheepdog. But more and more these days, I find it hard. I just want to bite the shepherd. But, I don't. Because I know that if I do, I'll be taken to the pound and put down.

What a sheepdog needs, is a pack to run with.
This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins. -Ben Franklin

so would this bill then supersede the UFA where it clearly states "no registration"?

Look at the title as introduced:

A bill to regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.

If anyone was in doubt that they want to attack the 2nd Amendment...here's your sign!

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."
