Panic proof calibers?
#1
With the rush on ammo and the likelihood of such situations occurring over the next four years I was wondering if truly panic proof calibers exist? It would be nice to still shoot something when I can't find common calibers. I'd like to start a discussion on the topic and come up with a list of calibers that are still quite available, even cheap during these times. From what I have seen 17 HMR and 7.62x54R are still quite available even with the rush. What are your thoughts?

Definitely 17hmr and 7.62x54 as you noticed, also 327 fed. mag, 22 wmr, 45 colt, 44 mag ... aside from the 22 wmr those others aren't exactly cheap though.

Not technically a caliber but it's still $25 for 100 shells at walmart and still in stock. I've shot a lot more shotgun in the past 2 months than probably the entire year before.

Other than that it seems like the most common caliber I see is .380 oddly enough. I would have figured with the recent popularity of pocket .380s it would all be sold out.

30-30 Winchester seems to be doing very well. Still one of the cheapest "hunting rifle calibers" and one with the best variety to choose from, even today. The local china-mart has had 30-30 in stock all this time.

Dude, send some of that .380 my way. It's been non existent here for months now.

In my area, .17hmr is going quick. But, then again it is because some asshole is running around buying it up as fast as anyone can get it in. Then he comes home, and my wife yells at me lol.

I can still get plenty of it, at what I would call "decent" prices. $14 a box is about average.

Still tons of 30-30 and 30.06 to be had, even at the local walmart.

Did come across about six boxes of the federal bulk birdshot in 12. Not ideal, but trigger time, and you can turn them into wax slugs.

Also noticing a metric ton of .380 at the local areas here too.

A few nearby places have some 5.56, at a higher price. But not alot.

All I see is 30-30. I don't even see much for shotgun shells, but I'll start looking for them now. I need some just to have.

One would figure that the 30-30 would have gone quick, with all those tacti-cool lever actions out there!! Big Grin

My LGS looks like it has plenty of 9mm and .40 now.

They are rationing it.

Stuff is slowly starting to come back into stock.

I don't know about .223/5.56.
