“I think we should look into someone who is not legally allowed to buy a gun going to [a show], buying one, and let’s figure that out,” the congressman from Janesville said. “I think we need to find out how to close these loopholes and do it in such a way that we don’t infringe on Second Amendment rights.”

I'm pretty conflicted on Universal Background Checks... Despite my misgivings, if this is the worse that comes from this whole shit storm, I would say we are lucky!

Until they use the newly created de facto registration database to take our firearms.

Legally, a prohibited person cannot buy a firearm. Period.

Background checks are part of my profession. As a alarm technician im required to do work at schools, daycare centers, military bases, federal, state and local government centers and prisons. my sister is also married to a high level fbi agent. if i had to worry about a backgroud check, id never get anything done

What makes you think the concept might be worthy of support? I believe that most "illegal" gun sales/transactions occur between two knowing parties. I don't think that prohibited persons buy from an oblivious/ignorant seller too often, thus I fail to see how "universal" checks would really keep guns out of criminals' hands.

This is easy.. make thw database available to all in this fashion. Call, give name, address, gov says yes or no. If no purchaser must file form to prove hes not ineligable available to everyone regardless of buying a gun or not. If youre convicted or a nut o should be able to find out foe whatever reason I want.

I would support universal checks providing they are not overly intrusive.

Transferring a firearm without a check to some of my relatives would not be something that I would ever consider. People don't even know if some of their own relatives are prohibited.
A gun rack in a pick-up is not for holding guns. Its a place for women to hold on to. Smile
