That's funny. What would have been aggressive and unsafe from a tactical perspective would have been to have hung on the US plane's six.

Close passes are really just having fun and 50 to 100 feet is barely even close for pilots who are trained to fly in formation about three feet apart.

I always preferred having another aircraft with a good pilot 10 feet away than 1000 feet. At 10 feet I knew where he was... at a thousand it's "now you see him, now you don't."

Of course there's the rule that formation flights are always supposed to be by advance arrangement, but you can't always do what you're supposed to do
