Sometime over the next week or so I have to visit the Admin building for TWIC application. their website says they are a State agency.

But being a Port office, Is it a "secure" building? Carry or no carry?

Got my TWIC card over the summer there (on Delaware Ave near the Tioga Marine Terminal in Port Richmond) Don't know the official policy, don't recall any signs. It's not a secure building except that you sign a book at a guards desk as to why you're there. Half the time the guard is wandering around and not at the desk.

On a side note, bring a lunch, it can be a long wait to be processed and you will return on a later date to pick up your card after the background checks are completed satisfactorily.

Thanks for that.

So it's not a "leave work at 4:00 to be there by 4:30 and have it done" situation?

Edit: Hmmm...so when is 270 days from 12/20/12? Seems a law passed that requires TSA to issue in 1 day.

Sec 709

Sec 709

A government agency following the rules .... that's funny.

Realistically it depends on how many people are there with you. They had two people working the day I was there. They have to go over your app, take prints and a photo and send your prints off to who knows where. I was called back about 3 weeks later to pick up my card and that day it was only slightly faster getting waited on.

Sec 709

Since this employer is just NOW getting around to scheduling me to get down there to apply for TWIC....I thought I'd revisit this...in case someone reads it later on.

Turns out I mis-read the change in law. It's not must issue in one day...it's can only require one in-person visit. So "theoretically", after I go there and apply...they should mail it to me when competed. Wink

Quote:SEC. 709. <<NOTE: 46 USC 70105 note.>> TRANSPORTATION WORKER
IDENTIFICATION CREDENTIAL PROCESS REFORM.

Not <<NOTE: Deadline.>> later than 270 days after the date of
enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall reform
the process for Transportation Worker Identification Credential
enrollment, activation, issuance, and renewal to require, in total, not
more than one in-person visit to a designated enrollment center except
in cases in which there are extenuating circumstances, as determined by
the Secretary, requiring more than one such in-person visit.

They left themselves a loophole for the one visit clause.

I wonder when the 270 days started, from the inception of the TWIC card or sometime after? I had to go twice, once with the payment and to have my prints taken, then again to have my photo taken and pick the card up.

September 16, 2013 is 270 days from the change taking effect. But even the TSA website still says "• Applicants must return to the center at which they enrolled to pick up their TWIC (unless they specify another enrollment center at the time of enrollment)"

OK, I must have missed the start date, I applied around Feb of 2013.

So i finally got down there on Friday. Somehow, I was expecting something a little more than secure than just an office.

FYI...2pm on a Friday afternoon...in and out in 10 minutes. Big Grin

Completely forgot about having the one-visit law on hand. When I go back Angry to pick it up I'll bring it up.

I get the automated call that card is "ready" for pickup.

I leave work early and drive back down. The computers are down and no cards can be issued.

Woman in front of me nearly took their heads off. "I drove 2 hours to get here because the call said it was ready and now you wont' give it to me! Can't you mail it?"

Response: "We can't mail them because we have to embed your pin code onto the card and need the computer up to do that."

So why can't we just give you a pin number...you embed it when the computers come up, then mail it?

So looks like I'll be making yet ANOTHER trip down there soon. Angry
