Trust him folks, he's got personal experience in these matters.

Quote:Two summary citations for disorderly conduct were issued to men in their late 20s, Evers said. A third man - the one whom police hit with a baton in the video - remains behind bars. Police are deciding whether to charge him with assault on an officer and Evers said, "It's definitely leaning that way."

Oh goodie, might as well just say 'we are trying to excuse our police officers getting caught on tape looking like reckless idiots by deciding if we can blame it on one guy we're holding. We don't know yet, but we think the excuse will hold.'

There's definitely more than one person getting whacked with a baton in that video, but supposedly only one of them deserved it.

Uh huh, commissioner's cleaning up the PPD real nice.

So what exactly were the police were supposed to do; since I'm assuming your a civillian policing tactical consultant?

Explain exactly how they should have handled this.

I'm sorry, should I assume everyone in that video the police were whacking with batons were guilty without evidence of it or should I presume them innocent until evidence indicates otherwise?

The police got caught, on video, in the middle of a brawl, some of whom are seen clearly throwing baton smacks that, from the perspective of the video, don't make sense. The only explanation they give is from their bar-hopping spokesperson who says that someone is being held in custody but that they might levy charges. The only other charges filed are disorderly conduct.

Apparently the police aren't even sure about what charges are fitting, they're just sure they did the right thing by giving everyone a little bit of a smack-down.

I like the police officer in white at ~42 seconds in that gets innocently bumped by a guest. Of course the best response was to grab that guy and throw him up against the bar.

Sure, there's the possibility of another perspective and a clear lack of context, but the actions I just witnessed didn't look reasonable and the only individuals I see out of control are some officers including those in supervisory positions.

So let's see, in favor of the people there:

1) Presumption of Innocence
2) Lack of evidence of anyone actually striking an officer
3) Officers throwing swings randomly and throwing people against the bar for getting bumped into

In favor of the officers:

1) The word of a spokesperson who has himself been tossed out of a bar.
2) Disorderly conduct charges filed and a possible assault on an officer charge filed.

For now I'm comfortable in my view of things as I see it.

And between 00:02 and 00:15 a black police officer, one of the two white shirts visible in the video, at the lobby table is put into a headlock by one of the drunken guests. The tux wearer who put him in a headlock moves off to the right as he's still fighting but I'm pretty sure that's him that moves back into the camera when he's grabbed by the back of the neck and thrown onto the floor. Before he moves off camera that's when two other cops proceed to strike him.

so...

The families can try to throw shit on the police by grabbing some attorneys and play a they-said vs. blurry video vs. PPD.

Maybe they can blame PPD for the dead uncle, too.

I'm betting that one or both wedding parties is trash from New Jersey. I can smell the AXE body spray just from watching the video.

I'm actually annoyed that the media keeps calling this a "deadly" brawl. Makes it sound like someone was beaten to death. When in reality the bride's uncle had a heart attack outside.

Ok now Lt. Evers shows off his "mad decent" police PR skills...

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/201210....html?&c=n

"If we had the opportunity to hit everyone with disorderly conduct, we probably would have," Evers said. "The 75 to 100 people involved probably deserved to be locked up."

Uhm... sure a defense attorney would have an issue with that.

I was in South Philly on Saturday night and briefly walked down South Street. South Street was dead for a Saturday night, and when I was a few blocks south of South Street around 1:00AM, I heard and saw a lot of cop cars heading east. I assume it was for this city-wide quadruple assist.

Update: brawl was resolved quickly after police DJs herded everyone to the dancefloor and encouraged them to "SHOUT... a little bit softer now..."

How in the world are you quoting Ironsight when Ironsight's posts aren't even there?

And how come they're not there?
