I think they are correct. They can ban printing them in philly. However that requires them to prove you printed it in philly. Since that's not an easy task... one could simply take your printer somewhere else, print it, and assemble it or assemble the pieces in philly. Once the actual gun piece is printed the rest is not relevant. Assembly isnt manufacturing. Of course I still haven't read the bill to know what's in it.

They can ban all they want... but just like with other firearms, people are going to have them. The idea of the 3D gun came about so people could make untraceable guns. Untraceable guns aren't exactly something that would coincide with laws anyway. I guess they should ban meth too, then no one will make any.

They're worried about terrorists and criminals being able to evade metal detectors? Did I really just read that? Reminds me of the myths about Glocks in the 80's.

One of the problems with legislation like this is that you just can't legislate yourself ahead of the pace of technology. The truth is that in the very near future most households will own a 3D printer. Making it illegal to print a lower or other gun part with a 3D printer is not going to stop the person with ill intention from doing so. It simply gives the DA something to charge someone with after the fact, which does little if anything from preventing a crime.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.

In other news: Philly to outlaw crime. Crime predicted to decrease thanks to the new law.

If we lie to the government, it's a crime. If the government lies to the people, it's called politics.

As with most laws... this will be used to stack charges and over-criminalize offenses. It's like hate crime... Punch someone in a fight and get a mild charge for disorderly conduct or simple assault. Punch someone and call them a derogatory term and you are hosed.

So now it will be:

He was caught with a gun... Shrug

He was caught with a PLASTIC GUN!!! Beeler
