Positive Encounter: Chick-Fil-A, Seven Fields, PA
Was at the Chick-Fil-A in Seven Fields (about 15-20 min north of Pittsburgh) today with my son. I've open carried there several times without any issues. I'm always wondering what may happen, though, since that area is full of suburbanite yuppies and CFA seems to be a soccer mom magnet.

I get all the food spread out and a barely 16-yr-old server comes up to check if everything is good (one of the many things I like about CFA) and I tell him we're fine. Then his eyes pick up my gun (strong side out) and he stares at it for the rest of his comment:

LOL. Poor kid. Anyway, we start eating and this guy just pops up on my side. He's a mid-30s guy and was sitting with his wife and small kid. Here's where the positive encounter began:

"Sorry to interrupt. I'd really love to shake your hand, but I see you're eating. I just wanted to tell you 'thank you' for what you're doing there (points at my gun). I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot."

I've had the "is that real" and the "is that legal" and the "what kind of gun is that" encounters in the past. This was an absolutely new kind of encounter. I thought it was really cool, but I was totally baffled. I probably looked like some veterans do when I thank them for their service out of the blue.

Upon further reflection, in today's political climate, I guess we are on the "front line" in the fight for the Constitution. I've never served in the military, so I don't claim to be on that kind of level. But I still care a lot about my country and my family.

A good day out. I'll take it.
I've seen one person out OCing (when i wasnt driving) and I thanked them just as the guy did in your situation. He probably had the same look on his face that you had on yours.

So, thank you for OCing. .

I am a unique & individual snowflake just like everyone else.
Very good to hear. The last time I was at a fast food joint, I had a guy try to thank me for my service as a police officer, but fortunately he asked me whether or not I was a cop first. Wink

Did you get the extra side of discriminatory hate with your sandwich?

I had a similier encounter last week. An older woman noticed my gun and said "I see you like to carry your stuff out in the open". I turned and knew she was speaking about my gun and said "yes i do". She smiled and said she likes to keep hers hidden.
You have a right to protect yourself and a duty to protect your family.
