I don't know how this slipped by me. Fuck their swearing ban. Nice to see the free state project people were there though. I am still amazed at the people who don't understand that any limitation of free speech is a slippery slope. They say that most of the people in the community voted in favor of this. The guy in the on the video in the second link says, "Why defend offensive speech?". What is offensive? Who decides what is offensive? Should we make it illegal when someone says disparaging things about your religion?... or just certain ones? Why would any non-offensive speech need defending? This is why we need to train kids at school about actual civics, and not just what our rights are, but why they exist in the first place.

From wiki:
On June 11, 2012, Middleborough made national headlines after residents approved an ordinance outlawing the use of profanity in public that is punishable by a $20 fine. It passed 183-50 in the town of over 23,000 residents.[19][20] Many legal experts say the law violates the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Dozens of residents on both sides of the issue attended a protest in front of the town hall. The Massachusetts attorney general will review the bylaw to determine if it is constitutional and adheres to state law.[21] The Massachusetts state director for the American Civil Liberties Union said, "the Supreme Court has ruled that the government can't prohibit public speech just because it contains profanity."[22][23]

It blows my mind that people first of all want to prohibit this type and speech and second of all think they can do it. Their tiny speck of a city block doesn't revolve around them why would they think their town/city/county/state/country does?

This is were Political Correctness leads you. It is ridiculous. The real shame is that the people wanted this to begin with. Maybe they are Puritans. Waiting for the witch trials to start going again.

Virginia Beach has had such restrictions in place for years. I don't care one way or the other. It can't be easy to enforce such restrictions.

How can you be indifferent about the government telling you what you can and can't say?

It pains me to say I know several liberals that would vote for this in their own towns.

Look at moderation on some various gun forums on the internet to see it happens.
