Question on Saving Seeds
#1
I have questions about saving seeds. My father-in-law has a fruit/veg stand and he throws away all the fruit/vegs that go bad.

My first question is, if the fruit/veg is starting to Rot are the seeds still good? If so, How long do saved seeds last?

What is the best way to save seeds?
Are you a sheep or a sheepdog?

Not an expert on the matter, but here goes.

I would say that so long as the veggies/fruit are not to far gone they would likely be OK. However you should save seeds from quality veggies/friut. The object is to select some of the best and save those seeds. That may be hard once they are past peak. But since it's free what do you have to lose?

Seeds should last at least a few years longer if left in a fridge or freezer.

I can't say for sure how long they can truly last but I suspect it's a good long while.

There's a lot of good information out there on saving seeds. Different seeds I believe need to be prepared harvested and prepared differently. Once they're prepared, the storage is about the same, O2 free environment, cool dry place.

You'll have to look up the kind of seed you want to preserve to determine the procedure for saving it.
