Rabbits
#1
A good friend of mine is giving me a few hutches in order for me to start raising rabbits. Since the wife is in charge of the chickens, I figured this will be a good idea too. Picking them up next week. Any place I can get some California and/or New Zealands in my area?

Don't know about your area, but Roots Market down here has a wide variety of rabbits every Tuesday. Maybe there's a farmer's market near you that has something similar.

There are some places and even in NJ, but reputation is everything.

I contacted a guy in Palmerton, but he has shut down his rabbitry. Found a bunch on Craigslist.

Slow to get into the blocks. Built a small "bunny barn" on the side of my shed and installed the hutches last week. Got my female and have a male already. Everything is going well, if you know what I mean Wink, and hope to have some "roasters" ready for Christmas/New Years when my parents are visiting.

Anyone know of a good way to provide water for your rabbits in freezing temps? Right now I have two large water bottle feeders and two gravity fed food feeders that keep my rabbits fed for 3-4 days, but my water bottles obviously wont work well in the winter time. I'm trying to come up with a good solution that will avoid having to go out twice a day to give them water. I'd rather not use electricity unless it is going to be extremely low usage. I was thinking maybe some sort of solar setup, but that might require a huge panel that would cost more than it's worth. Maybe some sort of super insulated container, but what type of container would work best? The water bottles will always freeze at the spout before the water inside freezes, so you wouldn't be able to use one of those. A bowl has too much exposed water and would be hard to keep insulated. Any ideas?

Oh and don't tell me to bring the rabbits inside. Rolleyes

Just found this:

http://www.amazon.com/Farm-Innovators-He...ter+bottle

It uses 20 watts and it thermostat controlled, so hopefully it doesn't cost too much to operate. I could also insulate it which would make it more efficient.

I was looking at the Allied Precision HRB32. Pretty much the same thing as you found.

You should keep on looking for one that runs on DC voltage so you can just use a small solar panel to run it.

Good call, don't know why I didn't think of that. Maybe something home brew.

Teach the rabbits to lick ice blocks.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.
