Video above, whole short article below.

Quote:Radnor Township Police showed the violent force of one of their six machine guns to Harry Hairston and the NBC10 Investigators. Police Chief Bill Colarulo says that the Radnor Board of Commissioners decided to destroy these guns rather then risk them falling into the wrong hands.

Wait, they're melting down guns that the taxpayers paid for?

That is the way I viewed it. But that can't be right. I mean I can understand the brady bunch spending the money to buy one and destroy it. But these are the police. This makes no sense.
This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins. -Ben Franklin

A full auto M16 going to a police department costs the same as a semi auto AR does for us peons. It's not like they spent $25k on it. The taxpayers pay more for guns misplaced by LEOs.

I don't care if it's cheap or not, it's still wasting tax payer monies.

They're finally being responsible. Law enforcement agencies are well known for losing many, many guns every year. They misplace pistols, shotguns and machine guns. A friend of mine told me about a Sheriffs deputy who was fired after the M16s he had in his department owned SUV stolen when he left them in the back of the truck overnight. They lost like 4 full autos.

With billions being wasted on worse crap, you're worried about less than $1k? Like I said before, they lose guns all the time. At a much greater cost than that.

They're also known for using excessive force, and having access to full auto guns is a perfect opportunity to expand on that.
There are three types of people in the world:
Those who make things happen,
Those who watch things happen,
And those who wonder what happened.

I doubt very much that Radnor's budget is billions. If every level of government were to actually take measures to save money instead of waste it, like this, then we wouldn't be in as bad shape as we are. Instead, people keep on saying, "well it's just a little bit, it's ok". No, it's never ok to waste tax payers money.
