Report: Al-Qaida developed liquid that turns clothes into explosives
#1
Quote:Officials say liquid is 'ingenious' and 'undetectable'; NYT report U.S. embassy closures result of intercepted electronic communications between Al-Qaida leaders, but sources say other streams of intel also led to closures.

An Al-Qaida affiliate has developed a new generation of liquid explosive that U.S. officials fear could be used in a future attack, ABC News reported Monday.

Two senior U.S. government sources who have been briefed on the terror threat that prompted the U.S. to close embassies across the Mideast and North Africa this week, told the network that clothes dipped in the liquid become explosive devices when dry.

One of the U.S. officials described the new generation explosive as "ingenious," while another said it would be undetectable under current security processes.

The liquid explosive is believed to be the brainchild of the Yemen-based affiliate Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the officials told ABC News. This affiliate is home to Ibrahim al-Asiri, a master bombmaker, who was on the 25 "most wanted terrorist" list published by the Yemeni government.

Wow, I hope they have something more substantial in the way of evidence other than a couple of guys talking on the internet. I hear that polymer pistols can't be detected by metal detectors.

Clothes dipped in liquid that become explosives when dry......The TSA must go beyond the pat downs and radiation scanners to protect Americans. I think it's only reasonable now in light of this to strip all flyers naked and have the clothes tested with lighters for this new liquid. Once everyone's clothes are safe they can put them back on and board the plane. Your clothes will be burned slightly due to testing so please don't wear anything of value.

In an effort to save money and time there will be no private rooms to strip. You must do it on line in the terminal. Safety trumps your dignity and privacy always.

So the bad guys watched an old episode of Mythbusters where they did the exploding overalls Myth?

I doubt this is even remotely new technology nor do I believe it is overly effective at bringing down a plane.

Thank God. TSA was getting bored just patting us down.

Wait until they find out I developed an explosive that can be used in a 3d printer, and thus make any product that appears to be polymer, but in reality is a polymer based explosive that can be detonated by farts. I'm churning out whoopee and stadium cushions by the dozen. There won't be a grade school student or sporting event safe anywhere.

So, am I the only one who created a pair of throw away email addresses to send elaborate plots back and forth hoping to confuse the NSA when I'm at the coffee shop with my laptop and a MAC address changer?
