Ruger SR1911
#1
Think we're going to go to Jamison on Monday....one because there is a grocery store there that holds the new and temporary 90's throwback of "Jumpin' Jack Doritos" and I'm going to buy as many bags as my husband lets me. He thinks I'm ridiculous but I even wrote the company last year begging them to bring the flavor back. I'm sure that's NOT why they did it, but regardless, I'm stocking up because they are not carried in every store, and supposedly they're done in February.

Okay. That very important errand aside....the other reason is to hit Tanner's. haha. I think we want to put our name on a waiting list for a Ruger SR1911. And maybe pick up...um...*a* box of ammo. Dodgy

Questions...

First, anyone have any idea how long that waiting list is?

Second, does anyone know which model would be better? Is there a difference between the compact one and the full sized one as far as recoil or shooting enjoyment? My husband likes the look of the compact one better, but I want whichever one is easiest to shoot, because it will mostly be for home defense, and some range practice.... not carry.

The compact one was just released this year at SHOT and I don't think anyone has gotten their hands on it yet, unless there are some videos on YouTube during the media shoot.

Don't know the length of the waiting list, but I know that Target World in Chalfont has had the same SR1911 in their case since July of 2011, but it's not for sale and I think they stopped adding names to the list. With that, they have yet to see another SR1911.

I just know that Ruger needs to get their shit together.

If you are looking for an inexpensive 1911 then I can recommend the Taurus PT1911. I have it in stainless. Nary a problem with it. ViperGTS also has one in stainless... actually we ordered ours at the same time.

From a recoil standpoint, I have the Springfield XDs. That is a 3.3 inch barrel and a polymer frame, so much smaller and lighter than a Commander sized 1911. I have no problems with the recoil in that gun.

I will say that the Ruger is a nice looking pistol and it was my first choice, but I didn't want to wait and the ones I was finding in stock at the time were being sold for more than what they were worth.

Hm. Will check out the Taurus. Really like Ruger though, wish they would catch up. I wonder if there's some sort of government reason they can't catch up to demand? Like excessive taxing or some reason they are unable to afford to hire more people to catch up?

Nope... they released the SR1911 and didn't take demand into account. Then they topped it off with their "million guns" promotion. That put manufacturing behind in a big way.

The last SR1911 I saw in the wild was at American Arms in Colmar several months ago. It actually sat in the case for awhile because they were asking $800 for it... that was MSRP.

From what I gather the SR1911 is a great pistol, but it's not an $800 gun. The most I would pay is $700, and that's even stretching it. When Target World was taking orders they were charging $625... that's reasonable.

From what I have read on Impacts Website it APPEARS to be about 6-8mos. That may have been before all this nonsense started though.

I have seen two SR 1911's in person since November, both had a price of $799. One I saw on Thursday at Gander Mountain in Dickson City. The other I saw in Johnstown's Gander Mountain back around Thanksgiving. The SR1911 is my favorite 1911 style pistol but in the $600-$650 price bracket, more than that it's not worth it. Consider the Remington R1 too, it's American made and the base model can be had for $600-650 and the SS model for $700.

Hm. Thanks for the suggestions! We'll take a look around Tanner's next week and see what they have.

Don't forget to check around the internet, even with the FFL fee you might come out ahead of the game purchasing online.

Good luck! I was at Tanner's 2-3 weeks ago and their cases were pretty empty (at least compared to what I am use to seeing). I could only imagine it has gotten worse. Also I posted this on 1/18 on the Tanner's thread on this site.

Quote:Here is a update on what is coming in this afternoon and what we currently have instock at this time.

This afternoons delivery is going to be very thin. We are not taking any names for anything. First come first serve. Everything will be out Saturday morning. We only have 50 boxes of PMC 5.56 coming in. Price will be $8.99 a box. We are going to put 10 boxes out each day for the next 5 days. One box per person. We have 100 P mags coming in. Price will be $19.99 each. We will be putting 20 out a day for the next 5 days. 1 mag per person. We only have a hand full of AR's coming. Not sure on the brands yet.

We do have some 9mm, 40, and 45 ammo in stock. 1 box per person. We are completely out of 22 ammo. Hard to believe that we do not have a box of 22 ammo in the store.

Here is a list of some guns that we will have a pretty good stock of at this time.

Beretta 92FS 9mm $575
CZ 75B 9mm $499
Glock 22 Gen 4 40 $550
Glock 23 Gen 4 40 $550
Glock 34 Gen 3 9mm $619
Kel Tec PF9 9mm $265
Springfield XDM 9mm $575
Beretta Nano 9mm SALE $350
Ruger SR9C SS 9mm $419
Ruger SR9 Blued 9mm $419

I know some of you have been early risers on Saturday mornings. Tomorrow we will not be opening the door until 8:50AM

One last thing. This is Raymond Tanner and I handle all of the Face Book posts. I am leaving for vacation at 2:00 today and will be out all next week so please do not send any messages during that time because there will be no one to respond to them. Please contact the store at 215-343-3103 and any of the sale staff can help you out.

Your best bet might be gunbroker, some other online site, or used from PAFOA's classifieds.

Bud's has the SR1911 in stock. $829 (cash/check discount) + free shipping. It's kinda high, but I don't know when the SR1911 prices are going to go down.
