Ruger SR9C - Mounted weapon light?
#1
Since I can't make up my mind on which handgun to buy next I think I need to add night sights and a light to my SR9c.  I'm good on the sights, but need to pick a light.  The TLR-1 would be my first choice, however from what I've read it's too big to mount effectively.  I think that leaves me with the TLR-3.  Any comments or other suggestions?

(This is my EDC weapon so a light that can be mounted and removed quickly would be preferred...my holster ain't made for a light.)

I have a Ruger SR40c.  I currently do not have a light mounted on it, but I have tried several lights on other guns.  The TLR-1 is my favorite light, but I think it would be too big.  The TLR-3 would be perfect.  Size, brightness, and price, it is a steal!  The light made by Blackhawk (90 lumens) is okay, but I think it is overpriced.  I think insights and surefires are all over priced.  Smith and Wesson makes a light meant for the m&p compact, but it would probably suit you fine too.  Below are links to the tlr-3 and the smith and wesson light.

SR9c is on my short list to buy. Do either of you have, or know who makes, at least a level II retention holster for it?

I open carry almost all the time and use a Blackhawk Level 2. The one I have is for the SR9 (full size) but fits fine with the compact. There's just a bit of extra space at the bottom of the holster. Works perfect for me.

I have a TLR-3 on my M&P 9mm FS. Bright in the middle of beam and plenty spilling out to light-up the rest of the room i.e, you don't need to point it directly at something to illuminate it.

Probably only 500-600 rounds on with it but haven't had any problems with it yet. It's nice b/c I can switch it between my FS and compact and be good to go with either.

It's almost exactly what I needed. It's a bit oversized since its for the SR9 (not the SR9C), however this weekend I am going to make a quick modification so it has a tighter fit. I wore it today and it was perfect. The light fits and the draw is very simple. Now I don't have to attach/detach the weapon light when I'm home at night, or just rely on a handheld light when I'm carrying outside of the house.

I was able to keep the gun in the holster while driving without any issues, and the paddle is very comfortable. (even more comfortable than my SERPA). Tell him thanks again for offering me the used one. It is still in good shape and has plenty of more miles on it.

I bought the TLR-3 and it fits perfectly. I agree with your assessment of it. Plenty of brightness in the center of the beam with an abundance of illumination throughout a blackened room.
