Saw two open carriers today
#1
I was at a diner in Souderton today when 4 guys walked in, two of which were open carrying. It was the first time I've seen an open carrier. They didn't appear to be police officers because they were dressed casually with tank tops and tattoo's, etc. I decided to walk up and say hi.

For some reason I was nervous about talking to them. Maybe it's because I've always thought about how I would react to seeing an OC'er, so now it was like I was meeting a celebrity or something. Anyway I walked up and asked if they were members of any of the Pennsylvania gun forums, and they just said "we're from Louisana." That was it. I said "right on" and continued about my business.

I expected them to be a bit more chatty considering that OC'ers are usually outgoing and politically active people.

Not sure where you got that idea. At least on that other forum, about half of the OCers that weighed in said they have no interest in being "ambassadors" and tell anyone who approaches them to eff off and mind their business.

Well, that's what they say, but look at how often they post about their "encounters." I could be wrong, but I think it takes a certain personality to open carry, and that type of personality is usually someone who enjoys interacting with other people. If you wanted to avoid interaction, why would you partake in an action that will surely spark conversation? Of course that's all speculation though.

A little booze or maybe just a nice complement.

I don't mind interacting with folks, as long as they're polite. It's not why I carry, though, and yeah, I have no interest in being an "ambassador", whatever the fuck that means. But if some guy walked up to me because he or she thought it was cool, it'd be a nice change of pace.

I met two people who were OCing in my area, and both were pretty cool, and chatty.

I've only come across one OC'er in my daily travels and it was while i was driving down 501 and he was out walking. I'll admit to doing a double take to confirm what I saw, smiled, and kept on driving.

Given the general propensity for intolerance to things people don't understand or are taught to fear I couldn't blame an OC'er from being on the defense if approached. Perhaps someday that won't be the case.
