School Shooting Drill: Chicago School Officials to fire Blanks in Hallway
#11
So instead of arming school staff etc to fend off an attacker, they would rather condition children to huddle into a group in a corner of the room when they hear gun fire?

Hey if shoots ring out in school I would want my kid to run and hide too, but not in a large group of targets.

This has got to be the worst idea I've heard yet, and I've heard some shitty ideas. The next time they practice for a fire drill will they have a controlled burn in the hallway? Nothing too big but just enough to let the kids know what a little asphyxiation feels like.
I know I sound like I've got the tinfoil on, but this seems like a way for certain groups to ensure children are scared of guns at an early age and therefore anti-gun.
My guns have killed less people than Obama's ATF has.

Wait, isn't this in Chicago? Aren't the kids there already used to the sound of gun fire?

Impossible. Guns are banned in Chicago. Wink

My thoughts exactly. Pavlov's dogs. See a gun, start running. I can't imagine the effect this would have on kids who's parents have never had a discussion with them about the reality of violence in our society or guns. I don't think this is tinfoil hat territory. They already suspend kids for pointing at each other and saying bang. Guns are never used by the good guys, that's the message. My nephew had a project where he had to re-enact some part of history and parents would walk through the classrooms and look at these living dioramas basically. My nephew had to make a scene from the American Revolution in Boston without guns....They ended up making a scene where the bandage each other. They weren't even allowed to have cardboard guns.

Teach the kids to make their own revisionist history!

The other thing that interests me about this is blanks are not 100% safe, people have been killed in accidents before relating to blanks, where the load itself caused problems or somehow a real bullet got mixed up with the blanks. Those risks alone are reason enough this idea should have never been considered.
