Scope for .308 rifle.
#1
So I just picked up one of those Ruger American Rifles in .308..., now I need to put a scope on it. However, I'm not willing to put glass that is worth 3x as much as the rifle on it.

I was thinking of the Leupold Rifelman scope. They can be had for about 200 bucks and seem to get good reviews.

Thoughts?

Don't know about the Rifleman but Leupold isn't known for shitty glass.

The popular scopes in the mid-range budget always seem to be;

Leupold VX series

Nikon Pro-Staff and Buckmaster

and the Bushnell Elite

Thank you for the ideas! I'll take a look at those as well.

No problem.

Yeah, if the reviews are good on it then I'm sure it's decent.

I've got a VX-l on my CZ and love it and it looks pretty much Identical to the rifleman.. Lot's of guys say start out with the VX-ll and on up but that can get pricey.

I have been more than happy with the Bushnell Elite 10X40 for my 308.

I wish I'd saved a few extra weeks and gotten a leupold. Ended up putting a Bushnell Banner on my American, and although the scope is excellent in clarity and really helps me get those 1.25MOA groups that the American is capable of, the reticle is canted at about 2 degrees. That's just enough to annoy the crap out of me but make little difference once it's zeroed in.

I've owned 4 Nikon Pro-staffs, and I'm more than happy with all of them. I don't even consider other scopes anymore, because the Nikon suits my needs perfectly and is competitively priced. I'm sure there are other good options, but I found what works for me, and I don't like to mess with success.

Anyway the optics are very clear with no noticeable distortion. They let in tons of light, to the point that they could be used at night if necessary. Also, the new models have tooless turrets, which are a nice feature. Lastly, the finish is nice looking, and pretty tough. I'm not particularly gentle with my guns, but all my Prostaff's look like new.

Thank you very much. That scope appears to be on par with the Leupold that I was looking at. Lots of choices to consider! I guess I better just get one and go with it! Smile
