SCORE: 7mm-rem-mag.

I was able to pick up a used Remington 700 BDL in 7mm-rem-mag today used at my LGS. It is listed as $848 (new) on Davidsons.

It was on the dirty side, looked like it sat in someone's closet as there was alot of dust in the barrel, gunk on the stock. But, it had a $400 Leupold scope/base/rings on it. It has the iron sights also. Asked them to bore-sight it for me, just in case.

I usually don't buy used, but took a chance. Out the door with it for $700.

Took it home cleaned it up. Barrel was just about as perfect as perfect can get. No rust, problems with the blueing. Bolt was in good shape. Cleaned the crap off the stock, and underneath it was in great shape, a few very minor scratches, nice wood.

Shot it at BCFG in the afternoon. Nice pattern. The rifle is alot better than I am, as it should be.

SCORE!!!

Yep, considering the Leupold scope it was definitely worth the chance. I need to check the date of manufacture, but I'm guessing the gun and scope are 10-15 yrs old, hardly ever fired.

PS: Checked the manufacture date. It was made in 2000.

I know nothing about that caliber except that it's one of three that can still be seen on the shelf at every Wmart near me.

At least you can buy ammo for it.

When I lived in Colorado a lot of folks use it for bigger game such as elk. Very popular out west/rockies. Only a 2-3 inch drop at 250-300 yds. Definitely in the "bad-ass" category of calibers.

Ballistics here. The best loads are not even shown.

Well, I guess if you're ever threatened by an elk, you're covered. Big Grin

I was shocked when you said it was $700, but then, I have no idea what one sells for new. I also tend to forget how much scopes can cost, so that is a factor too. Ultimately though, if you feel good about the price, that's all that matters, since the money is coming out of your wallet, and not someone else's.

It reminds me of the 270 that my father used for white tail deer. It has that classic "hunting rifle" look. (to me) Congrats on the rifle and have fun shooting it!

LOL. Every year in Estes Park, CO the elk move into town and chase people around their yards.

It is on sale on Davidsons for $848, which is competitive with brick and mortar prices.
