SCOTUS rules DOMA unconstitutional

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the federal Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional.

Justice Anthony Kennedy Wrote:"DOMA is unconstitutional as a deprivation of the equal liberty of persons that is protected by the Fifth Amendment,"

The CA Prop. 8 case was dismissed on procedural grounds, which means the lower court ruling striking it down in CA stands, but it will not have impact outside CA.

Congratulations, America! A great victory that we should be proud of, as a Nation that values individual rights.

Striking down an unconstitutional law doesn't force anyone to do anything.

Nothing like the government enforcing its will in yet ANOTHER facet of life! So much for the right of the values of individuals!

Traditional marriage laws still stand in 34 states.......especially in light of the SCOTUS ruling.

The solution is to get the government...all government out of marriage. That includes tax breaks, and other incentives to married couples including their children. It's complete bullshit.

I think this is great news. From the decision:"DOMA’s avowed purpose and practical effect are to impose a disadvantage, a separate status, and so a stigma upon all who enter into same-sex marriages made lawful by the unquestioned authority of the States."

Exactly.

This is a step in the right direction, and sets a good precedent. However I don't think the government should recognize any marriage.

You say that, but then we find this:

So yes, churches and other religious organizations (or anyone else) will be forced via the bully pulpit (pardon the pun) of civil lawsuits.

They can't get out. They set it up that they are perpetually involved. Just look at a traditional marriage. A contract between a husband, a wife and the government. You can change or remove any of the former 2 but the later still remains.
The Second Amendment does not GIVE us the right. It tells the gov they can not infringe our right.
