WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved a renewed assault-weapons ban, advancing the measure to the Senate floor where it will face intense resistance from Republicans and other gun-rights supporters.
The bill was approved by the committee on a party-line, 10-8 vote. Chief sponsor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said she knows "the road is uphill" for the legislation, but sought to press her colleagues to consider the bill.
"Are we going to stand with the thousands of police chiefs and law enforcement officers who do support this bill? Are we going to stand with the victims of gun violence?" she said, stressing that the bill does not take "any weapons away from anybody" but would ban future purchases.

I was going to buy some more NRA gear, but I'll wait until the Friends of NRA dinner/banquet. I might cut them an additional check or renew my membership for a few more years.

I urge everyone to call their Senators to urge them to oppose this bill. I have read in mainstream media articles that this bill has little chance of being passed in the Senate and no chance in the Republican-controlled House. This does not mean you can sit on your hands because there is no threat to our 2A rights.

I don't trust anything they say on the "issue" of guns. They could very well be trying to lull gun owners into an apathetic state, making them believe there's no need to speak up to Congress. The gun control advocates will be making their voices heard to our reps now that it is out of committee. We must not stop calling, writing and peacefully protesting, even if we're being told by the mainstream media the bill won't pass
