Do we even have the details of this bill yet?

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Yup.......according to what I read everywhere so far, they will still need 60 votes. However, what I don't understand is that Rand backed away from his filibuster, which can mean only 3 things;

either they got him by the balls or,
it is already a closed deal or,
it will be wiped off of the table.

SB649 is not the legislation that was agreed to yesterday. This is the original Reid legislation that includes the verbiage that creates a registry while stating that registries are illegal.

If you look at the bottom of that page you will see that last action was:

April 9, Cloture motion on the motion to proceed to the bill presented in Senate. (consideration: CR S2492; text: CR S2492)

I would say we should have the new text tomorrow morning, but yes that is the correct bill number .. look at the Senate schedule here: http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/legisla...endars.htm (top middle) says:

Quote:Thursday, Apr 11, 2013
9:30 a.m.: Convene and resume consideration of the motion to proceed to S.649, the Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013.

That's all well and good but I was just pointing out that SB649 is the Reid bill and not the Manchin-Toomey bill.

There is no 'Manchin-Toomey bill'. They agreed to changes in S649 and amendments that will be added to get support to move this bill to a vote to debate.

See here: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/201...?hpt=hp_t2

Quote:The procedural vote followed a breakthrough by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, and Pat Toomey, R-Pennsylvania, on broadening background checks to include private purchases at gun shows and on the Internet.
