Senator Greenleaf Announces Resolution Creating the Task Force on the Prevention of Violence

Today, State Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf (R, Montgomery, Bucks) announced plans to introduce a Senate Resolution to create the Task Force on the Prevention of Violence.

In light of the Sandy Hook shooting and other mass shootings in recent months and years, the task force will study the underlying causes of these tragedies and other violent crimes.

Senator Greenleaf said, "This task force will be free to examine all issues surrounding cases of violence from firearm issues to bullying and mental health. Each of these events has left us in shock and wondering why. I believe this task force will provide meaningful direction and help the Legislature address many of the complex issues surrounding mass shootings."

The task force will be composed of experts on the subject of preventing violence. They will be asked to report their recommendations to the General Assembly in a matter of months so they may be considered later in 2013.

There's a small AP article in my local newspaper today (The Butler Eagle; article is not online). Quoting from there, it says "his proposed resolution would allow the task force experts to examine issues surrounding gun violence. These include any proposals to strengthen firearms regulations, mental health laws and efforts to fight bullying."

Apparently Gov. Corbett and legislative leaders would appoint people.

I can't remember....was Greenleaf the one that kept putting off letting pro-gun stuff come up for a vote?

(I went back and checked, and yes, he held up HB 40.)

edited to add: I don't know how to change the thread title. I left "Resolution for" out. Maybe that should be added.
