SENATORS WHO HAVE PLEDGED NO LAME DUCK TREATIES
#1
Quote:Below is a list of 36 Republican Senators who signed a letter by Senators Mike Lee and Pat Toomey on September 20, 2012, pledging that they would not consider any U.N. Treaties in this lame duck session.

Unfortunately, we are being told that several are willing to break that pledge and vote for the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) if it comes to the floor.

It is amazing that anyone would sign this letter before the election but be so quick to break their word after the election.

We encourage you to sign our CRPD petition and email or call these Senators to thank them for agreeing to oppose all U.N. Treaties in this lame duck session of Congress.

Please ask them to keep their word should any come up for a vote. You can find suggested language for your communication below the list of Senators.

***November 28, 2012 Breaking News Update***

Senator Harry Reid may file cloture on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) anytime today.

60 Senators must vote in the affirmative for cloture to be invoked, and we expect that it will.

Once cloture is reached, 30 hours must pass before an up or down vote can be called.

If the Senate does move to a roll call vote, two-thirds of the Senate or 67 senators must vote in favor of the treaty.

While we are hopeful that the 36 senators who signed the letter saying they wouldn’t support any U.N. treaties during the lame duck session of Congress will keep their word, we can’t be sure that a few of them won’t change their position and vote for CPRD.

That’s why we have to keep the pressure on.

Please call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and tell your Senator to vote “NO” on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Even if you have already called, call again. Our senators need to know that this treaty has no place in America.
