Update 2:30 p.m., Sheetz making deliveries

Sheetz spokeswoman Monica Jones said today that they are still experiencing shortages in the same areas that were affected on Saturday.

"However, we have received shipments to the store in Manchester and Chambersburg," she wrote in an email.

"We are still diligently working to get all affected stores supply as soon as possible," she stated.

Update 10:42 a.m., Rutter's stations have gas

Rutter's CEO Scott Hartman said today all of the Rutter's Farm Store gas stations have gas, but it took some hustling in order to make it happen.

"We've been scrambling for the last two weeks," he said. "As of Friday, we were touch and go there for a while -- but we managed to find enough for the weekend ... We've had trucks going to all sorts of places we don't normally go to get gas."

He said that after hearing that competitor Sheetz had run out of gas at several of its stores, there was a concern that Rutter's might not be able to handle the extra traffic of customers searching for gas elsewhere.

However, Hartman said he expected another shipment of gas late Monday night.

Hartman traced the problem back to the shutdown of a major gas pipeline that runs from Baltimore to New York, and stops in Philadelphia, in anticipation of then-oncoming Hurricane Sandy.

"It's about five days behind," since it was re-activated, he said.

One of that pipeline's main arteries runs from Phialdelphia to Pittsburgh, and supplies Rutter's, Hartman said.
