SALEM, Oregon — Police are on the scene of a shooting near a Walmart store in Salem, Oregon.

City Police Lt. Dave Okada says shots were exchanged with a suspect late Friday morning. No police officers have been hit, but a police dog was injured.

Okada asks the public to avoid the area, saying it's an "active tactical situation."

Same here. That's usually how I get all my breaking news though.

After listening to the feed for the last three hours this is what I've gathered.

He's holed up in a bus, on and off the phone with police, talked about suicide by cop and how many people have to die there, reports on the feed stated he has a bolt action rifle and a pistol, they have deployed gas over a dozen times to no affect, at one point he fired towards police and hit an officers gun and the standoff is still ongoing at this time.

Not sure what precipitated all of this, got to do some research...

According to Lt. Steve Birr with the Salem Police department, the incident started with a report of a suspicious vehicle at the park. When officers arrived on scene they discovered the suspect had a warrant out for his arrest. Officers confronted the suspect and he became non-compliant and barricaded himself in a trailer. He fired a shot from the trailer at an officer and hit a Salem Police dog.
