Obviously if things go bad, you're not going to be going shopping and you're going to be using food from your stores. Have you planned ahead and compiled a list of recipes that are simple, but tasty? If you start compiling recipes and practicing making them now, you'll be sure to have those ingredients on hand and know how to prepare them. This is especially true if you're using a dutch oven, they take a little bit of practice to get the meals to turn out just right.

So post your simple but tasty recipes here. I'll start off with a quickie rice dish that can be served with just about anything.

1 Cup Long Grain rice
2 Cups Water
2 Soft Beef or Chicken Bullion Cubes
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp dried veggies
2 tbsp dried onions
2 tbsp butter (if you have it, not needed but it's nice)

Bring water to a boil, toss in rice and other ingredients. Turn back to medium heat and cover, stirring occasionally. Dish is done when all water has been absorbed and rice is soft, about 12 minutes or so.

I've stopped getting those little hard bullion cubes that are harder than sugar cubes. I get these soft ones from Costco that have more flavor and dissolve better.

Here's one that I'm going to be trying out soon: http://www.everydaydutchoven.com/2011/06...cuits.html

This site also has a really good recipe for potato rolls that I'm going to try out too.

Can't recall how the ex wife made it exactly, but Spam sauteed with onions and tomatoes with some powdered garlic over white rice is an extremely tasty Filipino dish, despite looking almost exactly like Alpo.

I'm doing this one right now, except I'll probably just make bread instead of rolls: http://www.everydaydutchoven.com/2011/06...rolls.html

Here's the results of the potato bread recipe above.

I didn't feel like doing rolls so I just made two loaves instead. Smells yummy but it's still cooling down, just came out of the oven a couple minutes ago.

Taco soup
1 can kidney beans
1 can green beans
1 can corn
two cans tomatoes
1 can chicken broth
dried onion
dried garlic
1 package dried taco seasoning
Mix all in pan (including all juice)
Simmer 15 minutes-soup

You can add Canned chicken to this one easily.

Shanti fries: 1/2 potatoes, 1/2 onion, salt, pepper. Optional if you got it: some green pepper and bacon. Cover with water and simmer until mush like. Especially good when chilled to the bone.

What have you in the way of recipes requiring only water & heat?

Preferably something packaged dried rather than condensed soup.
