Sig 226, 229 vs H&K USP, USP Compact
#1
I'm in the market for a new semi auto handgun in 9mm, my budget can be up to $1200, but I'd rather keep it around 1k. I've been eyeing a sig 229 Scorpion, but the price is a little steeper than I think it should be. I've held them all shot 226's and 229's and I like them about equally, but I've never shot a USP. I'm leaning towards the Sigs, but I just can't decide, I think Sig is getting a little too big for their breeches in the last few years. I particularly like the size of the 229 in terms of concealment. My local shops seem to keep a lot more H&Ks than Sigs so I have better selection in terms of HK (I only have 1 actual Sig dealer in DE within an hour or so drive, the shitty part about living in a tiny state with the way the FFL system works, but I'd prefer not to pay sales taxes if I can help it). I know H&K isn't exactly known for being cheap either, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has owned both and developed a preference one way or the other and why? I'm a left handed shooter, but I adapt very easily and I'm looking to use this as an IDPA gun as well. Any thoughts?

I've shot all 3 pistols. Personally I prefer Sig over HK USPs. I like the trigger better on Sigs than the USP. I only put a mag through the USP, but I wasn't too impressed or I had higher expectations because of their prices. Check out the Sig 239 too. It's basically a slimmer 229. Out of the three you mentioned I would get the 229. The 229 and the 226 is the same to me in terms of quality, but it might be easier to carry the 229 over the 226 due to size. If you have no plans for concealed carry with your choice, then get the 226 or whichever you seem more accurate with.

Same here. I don't like the mag release on the USP.

Id take the Sig any day. I would personally limit my options to whichever models came with a short reset trigger. They kits are a pain to find after the fact unless you pay Sig to do the install.
