Sir. SIR!...
#1
Went to the mandatory parenting class at the Monroe County Courthouse this morning. Class was being held in the basement and they had deputies wanding everyone. I had left all my "weapons" locked up in the truck. I still had my holster on, and I was wearing an open sweat jacket. I get to the front and there is a small female doing the wanding, with a small male deputy off to the left.

"Empty your pockets into the container please", says the female. As I do so, she gets this panicked look on her face..
"Sir. SIR!". I look up at her.
"What is that on your side?!", she says, pointing to the bottom of my empty holster.
"An empty holster.", I said. The male deputy kind of leans to get a better look, and says, "Why do you have an empty holster?".
"You can't bring what fills it, in here, now can you?", I said. He kind of laughed and leaned back, while the female wanded me, looking like she had had a small BM...

Fucked up thing was, we had a ten minute break after two hours and everyone went out to get some air or smoke. When we came back in, the deputies were still there, but didn't so much as ask us if we had come back in with any weapons of mass destruction... WTF? Why make a big show of screening everyone, then let them out of the now secure area, and just let them come back in without re-screening???

By the way, no lock boxes?

I don't know any of the "back story" to your situation...so why not just check your firearm when entering the courthouse?

But that is funny that they didn't re-screen....

You just didn't feel like checking it? I did when I went to my class. My ex attended the same class, and the deputy manning security didn't want her to leave the building at the end of the class until I was gone from the parking lot, because I had a gun.Shrug

Recently, I visited the courthouse for my (new) marriage license. I had to run back out to get my DL and was not stopped on the way back through security, even though I set the metal detector off. I believe the security at most of our court facilities (including our State Capital) is woefully inadequate - almost as much "theatre" as the TSA.

You should have said you were there earlier and it must have fallen out, so you were there to look for it. Wink

Divorcing and have a 14 year old, so the class is mandatory. The class was in the basement, you don't go through the regular check-point upstairs. I left my stuff locked in the truck because I knew if I wanted to check it, I would have to go all the way upstairs to the lockers, probably with all the drama of a C.S.I. episode, and I would have been late for the class.

Oh, Jeeze.. Rolleyes

If they're gonna have a "mandatory parenting class", the time for such is BEFORE you're a parent.

Anyway, good job scaring the idiot with the badge - with an empty holster.

LOL. The class was really stupid. I don't think that attending it will change the behavior of anyone. Either you care about how what you are doing affects your kids and you try to behave like adults, or you don't and you act like an asshole.
