Slick Side BCG
I have a Colt SP1 upper (no forward assist) and I've been looking to make an old-school AR with it. I've got everything I'm looking for sourced out except for the BCG. It seems that no one is selling a complete chrome BCG without the forward assist notches.

Since I'm not finding what I'm looking for it's time to think outside the box a bit. I've seen the Young MFG National Match BCGs with the side charger (no forward assist ridges) and I'm wondering if I could use one of them and just leave off the charging handle and install a thread plug.

I'm still an AR noob so there's a good chance I'm overlooking something. Is there's any reason why this won't work?
Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.
How lame am I being the only response to my own thread?

Anyhow, on the off chance that someone searches in to this post I'll add what I found out about the Young side charger BCGs. I spoke with the folks at Rainier Arms and they have confirmed that the BCG can be used in a traditional AR15 setup with the side charger removed. No thread plug is needed, in fact the person I spoke with (wish I was better with names) did not recommend it because if on the off chance it that it backed itself out it would score the inside of the upper and buffer tube. A second call to Fulton Amory confirmed what I was told by Rainier.

Now I just need to find someone with one in stock at a reasonable price.

Discussions about homosexual ducks or something like that were all the rage when you posted this.

Not a whole lot of gun discussion here from what I see. Sad
