Sling with No Swivel Mount?
#1
I know that there are slings that can be had that attach in some manner without the need for mounting points, however, I haven't had much luck finding any, and the ones I do find give no real info on HOW they attach.

I have two long guns in mind - a Mossberg 500 pump shotgun (standard stock) and a lever gun.

Any suggestions?

I'm not real wild about big, thick, leather slings, and especially the ones with those huge, honking "pads". I don't intend to carry anything for miles, I just want a means to throw it over my shoulder on occasion to free up my hands.

is the sling attachment point near the rear of the receiver? you can use a one-point bungee. they also have ones that loop around the stock.

No mounting point(s) whatsoever - front, or rear.

For the shotgun you could go with something like this on the front if you have space.

This is what it looks like installed:

For the rear, I'm not really sure, I've seen some slings that kind of wrap around the butt end, or maybe you could replace the rear stock with one with a sling mount on it.

I think I'll keep searching for a sling that works without mounting points before resorting to replacing the stock(s).

It's odd that some lever guns have sling mounts and some don't.
If I have to, I'll drill the stock and add one. I guess the barrel band (or whatever it's called) would need to be swapped with one with a sling mount.

The pump shotgun has a black, synthetic stock, so I don't know how a sling mount would be added.

No, they make a sling mount that's meant to attach directly to any picatinny rail. I had a sling mounted to that one before I put the light on it.

Yes, for the shotgun. That would provide a forward mounting point, but still need a way to attach to the stock.

I was actually referring to the lever gun in what you quoted.

I did just run across a mag tube swivel set for the lever gun, but not sure I like the idea of having it attached solely to the mag tube. Plus I'd need to screw into the wood for the rear mount.

Still want to seek options that don't require sling studs before I go that route.

No sling swivels required. The rear mount is a webbing setup that wraps around the stock and velcros. The front is a plate that goes between the magtube and the end cap and comes with the sling.

Thanks. I'll look into that.
It seems reasonably priced considering it's more than a basic sling and also includes the front mounting hardware.
This may be something worth considering for my AR15 as well in order to maintain a familiar setup between the two.

Now for the lever gun...

Here's a thought for the lever gun...

It's far from "traditional", but it would work without any alterations to the rifle - provided it would work at all. I'll look into it.
