Quote:In the wake of a mass shooting at an Orlando gay night club, Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey plans on announcing new legislation that will ban those convicted of hate crimes from purchasing firearms.

Philly's LGBT Pride celebration was held hours after 50 people were killed in a massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando. NBC10's Lauren Mayk spoke to those who attended Philly's pride event about the tragedy. (Published 35 minutes ago)
A spokesperson for Senator Casey (D-PA), announced he will host a press conference Monday morning in Pittsburgh following a meeting with LGBT community leaders. Senator Casey will discuss the shooting as well as “steps the United States government must take immediately to address safety concerns across the country from commonsense gun laws to ongoing acts of hate,” according to the spokesperson.
Casey also plans on unveiling legislation that would ban people convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes from owning firearms.

The announcement comes after a mass shooting early Sunday morning at Pulse Nightclub, a gay club in Orlando, that left at least 50 people dead and more than 50 others wounded. Michael Hoffman, a gay man who moved from Philadelphia to Orlando five years ago, told NBC10 he was at Pulse but left with a friend about an hour and a half before the massacre took place.

What is a "hate crime misdemeanor" anyway?

Yeah it's definitely political posturing, but I'm curious how that misdemeanor is defined.

"Hate Crime" has become a PC liberal way of handing out money to certain groups they see fit.(like VOCA of 84') If someone murders someone it is not usually because they love them. There is really no purpose to the "hate crime" label, there are enough laws already where the crime can fit under.

Oh, and Casey is a POS.

I agree. Somehow, murder and assault don't fit the definition of friendly activity. That hate crime label is and always has been a bunch of crap.

And besides, the shooter in Orlando was never convicted of anything let alone a hate crime. He would still be legal to buy and carry in spite of this law.

Today's reports are that he was a gay bashing woman hater at work but was not fired because he was Muslim. What we need is to drop the PC crap and start enforcing laws we already have.

If memory serves, the Army officer in the Fort Hood shooting was a problem as well but was treated with kid gloves for the same reason.
