Boy banned from school for carrying cystic fibrosis gene

http://www.foxnews.com/health/2012/10/18...latestnews

Quote:A California boy has been ordered to transfer to another middle school because he carries the genetic mutations for cystic fibrosis – even though his doctors and parents maintain he does not have the incurable, non-infectious disease, the San Francisco Gate reported.

School officials said they believe 11-year-old Colman Chadam’s genetic makeup may put other students at risk and ordered him to move from Palo Alto’s Jordan Middle School to another district middle school three miles away after his parents disclosed his condition on a medical form in the beginning of the school year.

I'm sure this is only an isolated incident, we probably won't hear more cases like this in the near future...

If a person is contagious at one location, are they not contagious at the other? WTF are people thinking? The parents should have never listed it on the school paper work. The School should have never divulged Blahblah the personal information of a student. I wonder if that is a HIPPA violation.

Yes, it would be a HIPAA violation.

The ALCU is going to have a freaking field day with this one, and it's gonna cost that school district a ton of money in settlement and legal costs.

Idiots.

School officials are school officials because they're too dumb to be anything else!

When this is all said and done that kid will probably never have to work a day in his life if he doesn't want to after the civil suit on this one. I like how they hassle this kid for a non-contagious disease, but considering this is Kalifornia probably let a bunch of other kids get away with refusing vaccines that actually put all the other children at actual risk. Nice.

Gattaca was a wayyyy underrated movie. Watching that one a decade or so ago sent chills up my spine. It will really start once it becomes possible to pre-determine the sex of kids.

I remember the feeling that movie left me with the first time I saw it. I was in my teens and just barely able to process what they were saying but I remember seeing how plausible it was even then.
