Split case neck from the cold?
#1
I went to the range this morning and it waa a comfortable 16 degrees out. I brought my Bulgy AK74 out to test out a pair of bakelite mags I got. I noticed a few of the empty steel cases had splits from the mouth to the neck of the case. Could the ammo starting out that cold be splitting from the sudden extreme heat and pressure?

is it corrosive surplus ammo? I've heard of it not weathering well once opened.

It's corrosive but that only has to do with the primer. The ammo itself was opened a few days before I fired it. I have fired ammo from the same crate before but only saw split cases when it was well below freezing and only some of the cases split.
