Stiker fired pistol question.
#1
OK I finally bought my first striker fired pistol, a S&W Shield. I really like it so far. My question is. If the striker always has tension from carrying with one in chamber does it wear the spring out faster? I know it supposed to be repetition that wears springs but Im just wondering.

Spring wear comes from working the springs back and forth, you get minimal wear from sitting compressed. Go by the manufacturer specs they probably will tell you to replace recoil and striker springs together.

Keep shooting your shield until you get light striker hits. Then disassemble, thoroughly clean, and reassemble the striker. Shoot the same ammo and try different ammo too. If no light striker hits then it was just a dirty striker channel. If you still get light striker hits on "brand A", but not on "brand B" ammo then "brand A" ammo might have hard primers. If you get light striker hits on both ammo, then replace the striker spring and striker (very cheap to do). You may also want to use a stronger striker spring, but also note this may increase the weight of your trigger pull. Hope that helps!

Thanks Patriot. Right now with it still being new it looks like pin is ALMOST going through the primer, but I have only had a chance to shoot a few rounds and it was all the same ammo. I still like a hammer fired pistol a lot more.
