Strictly 9mm...mistake or smart move
#1
For the past several months I've been ready to pull the trigger on a second handgun. I've bounced between different calibers from 9mm to .45 ACP and everything in between. I'm now considering just sticking with 9mm. I would enjoy the benefit of cheap ammo for practice, common caliber for both firearms, and a what I think to be an excellent caliber for self defense.

So, I'd be interested in everyone's opinions on going with a second 9mm.

I only do .40. So if you want to only do 9mm, go for it.

Stick with the nine, the cost savings alone is a good reason!

9mm is a great round, and there is nothing wrong with sticking with it to keep things simple. There have probably been more people killed with 9mm than any other round when you consider all the Lugers, stens, mp40's, mp5's, beretta m9's, and glocks that have been is service with military and law enforcement for decades.

Typical internet commando answers...

Listen. If you ever want to instantly KILL someone DEAD by shooting them in the ARM, you're GONNA need a .45ACP.

Just something to think about.

Uhh no, 22lr is better because it bounces around inside you and tears your insides apart. Wink

Dunno.

USMC decided to go with the 45 in place of the 9mm, so thats where Im headed. I reload 9mm, would love to reload for both, but have to sell 9mm to help pay for the 45.

Smart move IMO sticking with just one caliber. The cost savings of 9mm are very appealing.

Thanks for the replies so far. I keep thinking I have thousands of rounds of 9mm, so if something happens to my current handgun, they'd be useless until I could get the gun repaired. With a second 9mm I will be better able to stockpile ammo without risk of having unusable ammo.

I think I should spend some time really researching the pros and cons of the different calibers too.

The new better expanding bullets in 9mm will really throw you off in your research. Ive had my 9mm for a couple of years already, I just really want to get into a true 1911 (45) platform.
