Student Arrested for Burping During Class
#1
Quote:A 13-year-old student in Albuquerque, N.M., was allegedly arrested for burping during class.

According to his lawsuit, after he “burped audibly” his teacher called the school resource officer, who in turn called the authorities to have him arrested for “interfering with public education.”

“They are using petty misdemeanor charges to arrest children in New Mexico,” said Shannon Kennedy, the boy’s attorney.

A seventh-grader at Cleveland Middle school, he names his teacher, principal and a police officer in his civil rights lawsuit.

The lawsuit also claims that school authorities transported the boy from the school to the detention facility without notifying his parents.

Additionally, it describes an incident that took place in early November in which the same boy was allegedly strip searched on suspicion of selling marijuana. He was never charged.

It's the "BILL OF RIGHTS" not the bill of "needs"

If it was legal I'd be perfectly okay with the father killing everyone involved in strip searching his son and punching everyone that called the cops in the face two maybe three times... Unfortunately it's not legal, yet. And what the fuck is up with new mexico?

As a teacher, I'm gonna say it was more than a burp. I'm gonna say that this is the kids version of the story.

I don't agree with being arrested for burping, but I'd put money down that there's more to this story than a simple burp. Chances are this kid is known as a troublemaker and this just happened to be the last straw with the teacher. Unfortunately, the teacher's ability to punish bad kids has been eliminated so the only thing left to do is have them arrested.

Well, they'd better send him for several colonoscopies and bill the parents to be sure.

Agreed, although I'm not sure why they would resort to "the police" instead of suspension/expulsion.

Then again, there are calls heard on the scanner almost daily for "unruly ten year olds". Yeah, parents actually call the police for that these days.

If parents weren't made to feel like a good spanking or two on a kid's butt was going to attract social services, maybe the cops wouldn't have to keep being called to deal with people's brats.

I got the impression the kids a winner.. none-the-less. We dont strip search kids at school unless there's a warrant. We also don't arrest kids for interrupting the educational system. We suspend or expel them.. anyone thinking that, barring this kid getting physical, that it's okay to arrest him for any nonsense is well nonsense.
