Supreme Court: Arizona law requiring citizenship proof for voters is illegal
#1
Quote:WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court ruled Monday that states cannot require would-be voters to prove they are U.S. citizens before using a federal registration system designed to make signing up easier.
The justices voted 7-2 to throw out Arizona's voter-approved requirement that prospective voters document their U.S. citizenship in order to use a registration form produced under the federal "Motor Voter" voter registration law.
Federal law "precludes Arizona from requiring a federal form applicant to submit information beyond that required by the form itself," Justice Antonia Scalia wrote for the court's majority.

Is this more in depth than showing a picture ID to vote?

Much more. Faux News once again shows its bias by telling half the story.

We need to combat voter fraud just like how the anti-gun groups try to push gun control.......baby steps! First, people should have to show a picture ID to vote. That's common sense. All it does is show you are who you say you are. You should be able to show your DL, state ID card, or even a voter ID card. After that, they should create a machine that when the ID is swiped will say if it is valid or not (similar to how bars swipe IDs). I know fake IDs that swipe can still be made, but I believe this will strongly limit the amount of voter fraud.

Like drug tests for welfare recipients, you're proposing spending untold millions of dollars to combat something that has been shown to be pretty much a non-problem.

When one fraudulent vote from one voting district can determine who becomes the next president of the United States, then I consider that a problem.
