Taurus Pearl/Gold .45

This gun. Love it.

I think its soooo beautiful. But I want to know if its a decent gun? I'm thinking about wanting it instead of the Ruger 1911. I like the shape of the gun above better than the 1911 style, and I like that it has the option of SA shooting. I LOVE how it looks (and adding some engraving later would be fun, too!). But if its not a reliable gun, I shouldn't even start shopping around for it. I did send off a message to Tanner's just now to see if they ever see them floating around.

Any opinions? I keep going back to this gun and I love it, at least how it looks in the picture. I like everything about it...the shape, the bling, everything.

But like I said, if it isn't reliable, its not going to be worth it. But if it is, I sooo want to find one.

I'm assuming you meant you wanted the option to shoot DA. I haven't shot that particular model but I've owned a couple of PT92/PT99 Tauruses and also own two PT1911. The trigger is a standard Beretta DA trigger from the 92 line. I like it and many people I know like it. Other don't and find it a bit mushy. I suggest you shoot someone's Beretta or Taurus with that kind of trigger before you buy it.

The other thing worth talking about is the frame mounted safety/decocker. Taurus is one of the few mfgs that offer both in the same gun. It allows you to use the decocker which some people like for the safety of it, but still choose to carry condition 1 (cocked and locked) if you prefer. I was never big on that feature, since I don't see the lure of carrying DA/SA guns condition 1. But hey, everyone has their way of doing things.

Talk to any 10 gun people and half of them will bash Taurus, mostly based on what they heard or read about Taurus problems from the 90s. Fact is that most Taurus offerings are very nice guns at a very nice price point. You won't go wrong buying a Taurus.

Actually I like the SA option. We were looking at 1911s because of that, but I held one and it just felt too big for me. I saw a lit of Taurus bashing but on the other hand I'm not seeing many of these being resold. Several of the pearl 1911s but not really any of the .45 pearls. So they can't be too bad...

I have an LC9 and LCP with tough triggers and I like that for carry.... Wanted a SA home defense. And love this pretty Taurus. :-)

Thanks!

Go take a look around for a Smith and Wesson 457.

Good pistol, DA on first shot 7 rounds of 45 and a bit smaller than a Colt Commander.

All I had to do to mine was replace the plastic guide rod for a metal one from Midway USA, and add night sights.

No longer in production Sad

Houge is a maker of grips. They sell imitation pearl like the grips on the 945.
Cerakote is a brand of refinishing product available in many colors.

Its not really expensive.

Buy a good quality used gun and customize it.

I personally would look for a steel framed Witness .45 in their "Wonder Finish"(satin nickel look).

Iirc there is pearl look grips for them.
You will love it. I'll bet ya 10 bux.Cool
