Taurus PT111 G3 Review
#1
Well I figured since we do not have any info on this pistol I'd give it a shot. (pun intended)Smile

I was in the market for a smaller carry piece. My intial thought was just to go with the ever so popular snub nose revolver. No particular model in mind at the time, just figured why not right? So after some time I had my heart set on a Taurus ultralite. Until I handled one in the store. Nothing really wrong with it, I honestly don't know why but it just didn't fit for me. So my searched was continued, I knew next would be something semi auto, preferably 9mm and small but not uncomfortable small. (I know I'm asking for alot lol)

So enter the Taurus PT111 its in 9mm (also .40 and .45acp). 12 + 1 capacity. Small, lightweight and not bad on the eyes. I thought perfect looks like exactly what I've been looking for.

So I started doing my research, found out many things about this line from Taurus. If you read around on the web you'll find many mixed feelings on the mil pro lines (as with most Taurus products). From what I found was that most issues people had problems with were with the first 2 generations of mil pros. Biggest one was the frame cracking on the first gen.

After more research most of the info on the Gen3 was quite favorable. So I decided to take the plunge, with my girlfriends money lol, it was a gift from her for my birthday. Big Grin

My take on it so far is that I absolutely love it. It feels great in the hand! The grip handle is pretty small but not to the point where you need to constantly regrip it while shooting. Atleast for me that is with smaller to medium hands.

I got her to the range this past Saturday and she performed flawlessly! I ran a 100 rounds of WWB and 50 rounds of Federal classic JHP's both 115 grain. No failure what so ever with either. I know it isn't a torture test by any means but I was impressed. One of favorites on this pistol is the trigger, I was definitely pleasantly surprised. It does have some slop to it but the trigger reset is right on the money. Overall pretty well done by Taurus.

A big plus in my book is the SA/DA trigger system. It is always a SA pull unless you have a misfire. Then it reverts to DA and gives you a second chance to fire that round that misfired. Very nice bonus on a carry piece IMO.

This gun also has a manual safety which I like and think many others would also prefer as well.

I would not have a problem recommending this pistol to anybody. I think its a great piece for carry but it won't kill you to run a couple hundred rounds thru it at the range. Ergos on it are great, it points very naturally.

My only problem so far is the sights. The straight 8's aren't to bad, but their not my preference either. I think new shooters might have a little problem with them, the 3 dot system I think is way more user friendly. Luckily trijicon makes night sights for it so I plan on getting some of those in the near future so no big deal just throwing it out there.

Thanks for reading.

Glad you were able to find something to meet your needs! How was the accuracy?

After getting a little used to the sights and remembering what I've read about covering up your target with the sights, I was able to get some decent groups. I feel it'll shoot exactly where you point it at as long as you use the sight system properly.

All in all I think it's more accurate than me so it works.
