Quote:Second Amendment advocates are firing away at a decision by Honolulu officials to destroy $575,000 worth of perfectly good handguns in a move one critic called the “height of anti-gun stupidity.”

Some 2,300 Smith & Wesson 9 mm handguns, including at least 200 that are brand-new and in unopened boxes, were issued to the city’s police department. But with the 2,200-member force upgrading to lighter and less expensive Glock 17s, the guns were set to be permanently holstered. While it is customary throughout the country for departments to auction the guns to law-abiding citizens, including the police who once carried them, or donate them to another department, Honolulu opted to destroy them.

No surprise there. The Aloha state is notoriously anti gun.

Stupid, yes, but at least it's only their (local) money that is going up in flames. Someone (local) out there needs to educate the rest of them how much money they are throwing away.

They are so brainwashed they would just say the money was wasted when they purchased the guns, not when they threw them away.

Beneath all of the PR to appeal to tourists (i.e., friendly locals on "island time" saying "aloha" and "mahalo" and "bruddah" and "sistah" left and right), there is an element in Hawaii which probably scares the crap out of the "establishment" there.

There are native Hawaiians, many of whom live in poverty or nearly so, who resent the hell out of what the haoles and their native minions have done to their Hawai'i and its culture. They'd be perfectly content to shove the whole modern infrastructure right into the Pacific, and to give the haoles the same treatment that they gave to Captain Cook. You can get a glimpse of it in the "Dog the Bounty Hunter" series, but it runs much deeper.

The state government (and its wealthy masters) are scared shitless of such a movement arising that would become anything like a "militia."

Absolutely. I got to see it first hand in 2004. If I hadn't been with a friend that was a local, I wouldn't be here today. Waiane was the worst. Military are told to stay out of there.
