Texas man, 21, fatally shoots intruder during home invasion

Quote:The family was reportedly baking a cake Thursday night in Harris County when the men knocked on the front door and pushed the father to the ground. KHOU reported that the man thought that the men were friends of his son.

The men lunged for the mother, the report said. At that point the 21-year-old, who was not identified, got his father’s gun and opened fire, killing one of the intruders.

I hope that the reports of these is just the media reporting them and there really isn't an actual increase. Because it sure does seem like there's been a lot more invasions lately.

It does seem like there are more invasions...that, or more homeowners having guns, and gun stories are making the news more lately.

I'm glad they're reporting the stories where the good guys win. Everyone needs to read those.

Based on my emotional reasoning (and the fact that 4 guys in masks with guns entered a pharmacy my girlfriend works with, which is located a mile from the state police barracks, tied up the staff, and stole all the narcotics) there certainly has been a huge increase in violent crimes, but I have no hard logic to back that up.

I wonder if its because more offenders are being allowed back on the streets, or its just the lousy current generation are entering adulthood and they have nothing better to do than crime...

Ah, we, the pro second crowd, have been citing a drop in violent crime with an increase in gun ownership as proof that civilian gun ownership works, or at least doesn't contribute to violent crime.

Though it may seem like it is on the rise, it isn't. It's important to keep the big picture.

While overall crime is on the decline, certain types of crime could be on the rise and others on the decline.

It seems like more petty crimes are being reported because more homeowners are defending themselves, and thus criminals are dying. These crimes probably would not have otherwise been reported.

Not sure what that has to do with the actual stats though.

True, though not quoted, I was replying to Gregors post. However, there does appear to be evidence to suggest that home invasion is on the rise.

Crime will decline as the population of criminals are steadily killed off.

That's what I was getting at in the first post, it's not an increase in shark attacks, just an increase in shark attack reporting. Wink
