SAN ANTONIO, Texas (CN) - A police officer for a Texas school district may have used excessive force in fatally shooting a teenager who fled the scene of a fistfight, a federal judge ruled.

Denys Lopez Moreno sued Officer Daniel Alvarado, Police Chief John Page and the Northside Independent School District in September 2011 for the death of her 14-year-old son, Derek Lopez.

The incident unfolded on Nov. 12, 2010, when Lopez allegedly exited a school bus and, in view of Alvardo, punched another student.

Lopez ignored Alvarado's order to freeze and fled the scene with the school officer tailing him in a patrol car, according to the amended complaint.

With Lopez hiding in a shed at a nearby home, Alvarado drove back to the scene of the fight but allegedly refused to give up the search.

"Ignoring his supervisor's orders to 'stay with the victim and get the information from him,' Alvarado placed the second boy into the patrol car and sped into the neighborhood to search for Derek," the complaint states.

Well, assault and fleeing a lawful arrest are crimes. Between criminal stupidity and Rambo-esque police officers, people are bound to get hurt when they needn't. On the fence on this till I hear more.

I'm not on the fence, that cop should go to prison for the rest of his life.

Quote:"In approximately a four (4) year period leading up to the shooting, defendant Alvarado had been reprimanded sixteen (16) times," according to the complaint. "Specifically, he had been reprimanded for insubordination and failure to follow supervisors' directives seven (7) times. Due to his poor service record, Alvarado was suspended without pay on five (5) occasions. On May 21, 2008, Alvarado was recommended for termination by Page. Despite being recommended for termination for insubordination and for refusal to follow supervisor directives, Alvarado remained on the force without remedial training."

Must be great to have a job where you can be a total fuck up and be able to keep your job up until you kill someone.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.

Not to mention guaranteed pay raises, pension, and crazy good medical coverage.

I'm so jealous. Those lucky bastards.

So this guy is applying for a police position in Texas.

The chief says that he must pass a test before he can be hired.

The chief gives him a box of ammo and a 357 revolver.

He tells the applicant that he must go out and shoot:
2 Negros
3 Mexicans
1 "homo"
4 "chinks"
and a rabbit.

The applicant says, "Why do I have to shoot a rabbit?"

"You're hired", replied the chief.

Didn't have time to read anything more than the clip before I went to the beach, but now after some more research, I'm gonna say: wtf is wrong with kids these days, I would never have dreamed of doing anything remotely like this.

That being said, this guy is not anyone I want in my neighborhood, badged or otherwise. Play by the rules, pf don't play the game. President knucklehead and his ilk say that carry laws lead to a "wild west" mentality, but when so many "lawmen" act like "outlaws", it begs the question: should only the police have guns?

Here's your answer.
