The fine line between good jokes and bad jokes
#1
Before this issue blows up, he is what our stance is on jokes, comics and other related satire.

Many jokes may seem racial in nature but we have decided to separate them into two groups...good hearted humor and derogatory racial/ethnic undertone. Good hearted humor should not be confused with racial undertones even though the good humor jokes may mention the Irish or the Polish...even something like "A black guy walks into a bar..." These are not considered racial and don't need to be reported.

Now, a joke that is derogatory to a particular race or ethnic group is something that we don't want here. I'm short on examples but stuff like antisemitic Hitler jokes and KKK jokes would be considered racial and would be a rule violation.

I hope this clears up this issue before anything gets blown out of proportion. If you do have an issue with a posted joke, please report it and the staff will investigate. But if no action is taken, you may be considered 'over sensitive!' Tongue

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Can we make jokes about Hitler, the KKK, and antisemites?

Also, can you guys make a thread sampling the types of racist jokes we're not allowed to tell so that way we have an idea as to what's allowed and what isn't?

I half kid about that above sentance, but for example, the Dave Chappelle bit where he's the blind head of the KKK who divorces his white wife for being a "n**ger lover" is an out and out riot no matter who your are, and I'd hate to see that get tossed from being shared because it contains the N word, the KKK, and him making other sketchy comments for the purpose of poking fun of these types of people.

I guess what I'm saying, is the line of what is good natured and what is distasteful depends solely on the ear of the listener, and I'm not feeling clear as to what that line actually is.

Not that I've got a bevvy of racially charged jokes I'm dying to tell, but humor and offending tend to go together like biscuits and mustard.

That chapelle episode was friggin funny as hell.

Stach ans Stach were dragging a buck they just shot back to camp. Stach turns to the other Stach and says: I think it would be easier if we drag it by its antlers. Two hours go by, stach turns to Stach and says: Your right stach, it is easier but were getting a long way from campTongue

Stach and Stach were going bear hunting. As they were driving down the dirt road they came to a bend in the road with a sign that read: Bare left. So they went homeShrug

My personal barometer is if I am willing to tell the joke to the group in question in person then it would probably fit in the forum guidelines. If I wouldn't because they are present then it probably does not fit within the guidelines. This generally works because I tell jokes for the humor, not to offend others.

Which brings me to another point about an issue that has popped up here lately. Political Correctness. I've seen some people get upset with others over a number of issues, political correctness is one.

I think some people have a different definition of political correctness than me. Some think that censoring yourself over anything because of the reactions of others is political correctness. Not to me.

To me falling to political correctness is wanting to make an observation that is truthful and can be backed up with facts about a group but choosing not to because of the group that they are a part of and knowing that there will be a backlash.

This is different than making jokes or observations about a group that are offensive and can not be backed up with facts. To me this is bad manners and rude behavior. It is not being censored because of political correctness.

Just my two cents.
Everytime we look the other way when someone else loses rights we disagree with, we make it easier to lose the rights we support.

What I the joke isn't racist but involves a group like hitler, the kkk etc?

If I start a joke about two kkk members in a laundromat about sheet laundry, that doesn't involve their distaste of ....well everyone. Does that still make it bad?

Personally, I think all jokes shoul be fair game. If I tell a joke about a midget, a rabbi, a black man, a Muslim, and the aristocrats, I don't see the problem. Some people don't find some jokes funny. I'll laugh at anything I ind funny. Regardless of the content.
This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins. -Ben Franklin

Jokes are jokes, they're funny or they're not. Of course, being intentionally crude or insulting towards a group or member isn't the same thing as 'making a joke'.
