The sordid case of the budding legal philanthropist, Hobson McKown. (updates)
#1
Who: Hobson McKown
Where: Centre County, Pennsylvania
What's at stake:
• constitutional carry (voiding 18 Pa.C.S. 6106, 6109, and/or 913)
• prosecution for victimless crime (e.g. carry without a victim)
• recognition of reciprocated licenses for PA residents
• finding 6109(e)(1)(i) unconstitutionally vague or otherwise unusable without specific reasonable, articulable events proving both character and reputation
• not having your guns taken away as a matter of course for bail,
• or having your other property stolen in the meanwhile
(and look, there's more!)

The current thread in all its glory which began PAFOA reporting and discussion on the matter:
"Man tries to take loaded gun to hearing"
Its latest update:
Centre County ADA and City of Philadelphia file briefs
The current donation thread with latest update:
Donations still requested; send directly (updated with contact info)
The compendium of court records (unfortunately, currently current only to 12/16/2010 -- later documents linked on thread):
http://hobsonmckown.com/courts/
Recently filed briefs to get you riled up (full-text searchable) (Read it and weep.):
Brief for Appellee by Centre County ADA Sean McGraw
Brief of Amicus Curiae, in Support of Appellee by The City of Philadelphia (Kelly Diffily, under Shelley R. Smith and Richard Feder)

Synopsis of current status:
Case sits with Pa. Superior Court (court of first appeal; criminal case appeal as of right). Hobson McKown, originally charged with 3 counts, 18 Pa.C.S. 6106(a)(1), 6106(a)(2), and 913(a), lost a motion at trial court to declare statute unconstitutional and was convicted and sentenced on a single count of 18 Pa.C.S. 6106(a)(1). Defendant, with his attorney Jason Dunkle of JD Law, has filed a brief with Superior Court. Centre County Assistant District Attorney Sean McGraw has filed a brief with Superior Court. City of Philadelphia has filed an amicus curiae brief with Superior Court. Defendant anticipates serving and filing reply brief Dec. 26. Oral argument not yet scheduled.

Donations:
Donations should be issued directly to JD Law, P.C. at 204 E. Calder Way, Suite 306, State College, PA 16801. Follow up with JD Law via their contact information at their website: http://www.mystatecollegelawyer.com. If you wonder what happened to headcase, who for a time stood as point person in the donation drive for Hobson McKown's case, see Headcase is missing; donate direct. If you have any concern about their receipt, email me at mdjschool+mckowndonations@gmail.com to make a confirmation, or call 802-22-PALAW (802-227-2529).

You left one option off the poll:
Who will help now/help more, now that the case has progressed this far?

I no longer visit that other forum so thank you for posting this on here.

Here is my challenge:
I will take 1 week of my net profits starting today and donate to the law office here in town. That is 1/52 of my yearly net income (yes taxes will still need to be paid from this net since I am an independent contractor but this way I will be donating more).

I receive a daily printout with a line that calculates net profit. I will take a digital pic when the week is over and post. Then I will post a receipt for the amount given after the fact.

Anyone else follow this case?
Anyone have a change drawer/can?
Anyone independently wealthy and can afford a little?
Anyone NOT give a little back this past year (see my sig quote by Hu Chung)?

Anyone a gun owner?

I'm sure that you're on top of this, but don't just go donating to any 'law office here in town', of which there are several. After all, the DA and a judge came from Miller, Kistler, Campbell, for example! JD Law, which Jason Dunkle (the Defendant's attorney) formed and represents, is actually steps away from the magisterial district judge's office at which the original arrest went down. I actually forget the name of the building, but it essentially rises between Bell's Greek Pizza and the Post Office somewhere, on Calder Way. Of course, Jason Dunkle, at the time he was retained, worked for Masorti & Sullivan, but you don't want to keep donating to them when the Defendant is no longer a client!

Wanted to bump this so I will update my progress so far. The papers are in the Jeep but I believe that I am at about $150.00 (total) for the past 2 shifts.

-"Money" where your mouth is ($5.00)?
-"Time donated" where your mouth is?
-Spread the word on your FB pages?
-Call the law office to see if there is anything they need other than $$ to help defend this fellow gun owner?

Seems in this thread http://www.pa2a.org/thread-man-carries-g...-with-ltcf that at least a few of us suggested that we might help if this case starts its way through the judicial process. Welllll, this current thread is already at that stage.
