Third pharmacy robbed in the area (armed)

Quote:Police are searching for a gunman who wore a Philadelphia Eagles jersey and baseball hat when he entered a Middletown pharmacy Sunday afternoon and demanded prescription painkillers.
The suspect entered the Oxford Valley Pharmacy in the 1200 block of Woodbourne Road around 1:40 p.m. and waved a black semi-automatic handgun at customers and employees while demanding OxyContin, according to Middletown Detective Patrick Nicastro.

This pharmacy is right around the corner from where my kids attend school...we pass it every day, in a shopping center.

If you would have been here...would you have shot him? The article states he was pointing the handgun at pretty much everyone, and everyone, customers and employees alike, had their hands up.

I guess only if nobody was behind him?

I Always carry a handgun now(a little older) If i walk in or if a robbery happens while I'm in a business.

"The robbery is going to happen"

I'm not going to stop it,UNLESS the thief starts hurting people, I already thought it out, I'm not a cop. i carry a gun to protect me and those around me. simple as that. I'm not stopping a robbery, I'll leave that to the professionals (cops).. If the time comes that robbers start indiscriminately shooting people in the coarse of the robbery then i will adjust.

I would do nothing unless forced too.to many variables.

So basically, you would wait to shoot until the bad guy shot first....right?

Obviously not at home, you'd shoot first regardless at home, if he was armed...but in public, you'd let the bad guy shoot first?

Because it would be really tempting to shoot if I saw a bad guy pointing a gun at me or my family in public....

Anybody can say whatever they want, but nobody will really know what one would do until they are thrown in that situation. I can draw my weapon and take him out without compromising my safety (say he isn't looking at me while he is stuffing a bag full of Oxy for several seconds), then yes. If he is constantly looking at me every other second with his gun in his hand, then no. I probably have a better shot at surviving if I keep my gun concealed and obey his commands. If the thief didn't notice me yet while he is robbing the place, then I would seek cover, draw my weapon, engage (assuming I have a clear, safe shot), and shoot to neutralize. Like I said, nobody knows what they would do for sure until it happens to them. Plus there are too many scenarios to give a definite answer.

Of course that's true, you'd have to have a clear shot, you'd have to not be noticed by him, etc.

I was just wondering *if* you have the clean opportunity to shoot...would this have been a good scenario to do so...?

Obviously it would have to be while he is still posing a danger....once he puts the gun down and is in retreat, your opportunity would be over....

(Darn it, don't these thugs know about the gun buyback programs in the area?????)

I wouldn't shoot "him" because I wanted to or because I look forward to shooting someone. I'd shoot "him" because he is a threat to my life and those around me. Even if he gets what he wants, he could still shoot someone or everyone so that either there are no witnesses to the crime or the witnesses will be too preoccupied helping the wounded person rather than follow him or observe his exit.

I sure hope you didn't think I was saying I was looking forward to shooting anyone! That's far from the truth! I don't even carry like I should, let alone do I "want" to have to use a weapon like that.

I'm just asking the questions because all the recent armed robberies have been in my general area, and we pass this specific pharmacy (though we do not shop there) twice daily or more. We could easily be in a store one of these days where these thugs strike...and I have just not heard of anyone really striking back in defense at these guys, and I wasn't sure if its just because everybody else is as bad about carrying as I am, or if its because it just wasn't the right thing to do.

I would make the assumption that the BG just wants money, Of coarse if the BG is acting like a rabid dog that would change things, but i'm not going to do a thing to prevent just a robbery, what I mean by that is Take the valuables and scram, no one gets hurt

As far as BG pointing a gun at me or family, You do what you have to, BUT you're not going to outdraw the BG, His gun is already pointing at you or your family.

I would think their are thousands of scenarios, So I would start by thinking the BG just wants money(not mine, I might add) and go from their..

A situation like this I would think i'd get involved
