Thug suing PA

Quote:PHILADELPHIA – Mumia Abu-Jamal and his supporters are suing to overturn a new Pennsylvania law they says violates convicts' free speech rights.

Abu-Jamal and prisoner-rights groups filed a federal lawsuit Monday seeking to stop the law, which allows violent-crime victims to take legal action when an offender's conduct "perpetuates the continuing effect of the crime."

They're asking a judge to declare it unconstitutional.

Gov. Tom Corbett signed the measure into law last month saying it's designed to curb the "obscene celebrity" cultivated by convicts like Abu-Jamal, who's serving a life sentence for the 1981 killing of a Philadelphia police officer.

The law was prompted by Abu-Jamal's pre-recorded speech last month to graduates at Vermont's Goddard College. Abu-Jamal has drawn international support for claims he's the victim of a racist justice system.

What the heck?!

So please tell me why a college would ask a guy in prison for murder of a cop to deliver a commencement speech?! Really, that's the best speaker they could find? Budget hurting or something? Sheesh.

I'm just as upset at the college, personally....for encouraging thug behavior and having absolutely NO respect for the death of a police officer and the remaining family.

This doesn't surprise me at all, not one bit. Colleges and Universities are getting way out there as far as what is acceptable behavior.

Like it or not, it is unconstitutional. The problem isn't with him talking. The problem is with fucking retards at colleges that pay for him to talk.

I'm sorry. I wasn't aware that prisoners who are serving a life sentence for murder even HAD Constitutional rights. They voluntarily gave it up.

They gave up their right to life....they gave up their right to liberty....and they gave up their right to pursuit of happiness when they chose to take away someone else's right to life.

They also have no right to free speech. Tough cookies.

Just because you want your post to be correct does not make it so.

Well then it is unconstitutional for him to even be in prison if your post is correct. Because he is not allowed to have liberty or the pursuit of happiness there.

So prison is unconstitutional?

Prisoners retain some rights while in prison. You may not like it, but that's how our system works. They retain their freedom of speech. Your immediate leap to "prison is unconstitutional" was just silly.

So the black guy who murdered a white cop in cold blood thinks the justice system is racist? Hmm... Not like he was just minding his own business and got thrown in prison. Now, we all know that that was in fact happening, and its a genuinely disgraceful part of our history. However, it's not an excuse to commit murder.
