Authorities say a woman was shot and killed by a two-year-old while shopping in an Idaho Wal-Mart Tuesday morning.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s spokesman Stu Miller told the Associated Press that the woman was killed after the toddler reached into her purse and accidentally discharged her handgun while they were shopping.

Soooo sad. I'm not even sure how this can even happen.......

When I purse carry I keep it cross body. Having it presumably in the cart with the toddler was a fail to begin with.

I feel terrible, though, for the family.

The gun must have had an easy trigger.

One in the chamber, no safety.

This is why you should never off-person carry. That includes purse carry, horrible idea for many reasons.

When I purse carry, it is always on my person.

I do plan to get another .380 this year though and go back to holster carry.

Regardless, it's not a good idea. The most likely attack you are going to encounter is someone trying to steal your purse. Unless you are extensively trained in hand-to-hand combat, there's a good chance they will be successful, and now you've just given them your gun.

If you carry on your person, you can use one hand to retain your purse, and the other to draw your gun and stop the threat.

True....but the 5'4" woman with the purse on her shoulder or in her cart is always going to be an easier target than the 5'11" woman with her bag carried cross-body.

Anyway, haven't carried it for awhile.....it's too much responsibility to never set it down for a second....plus I am not the type that likes to keep switching purses per event.

Right now it's sort of a living room gun concealer in a cabinet.
