Took new RIA 1911 45 Tactical FS to the range
#1
Had range to myself Big Grin Since people were at the base of the hill hunting, I wore some Dont Shoot Me Orange vest and ball cap.

Anyway, got a box of Independence Ammunition (stamped Blazer on the case rim) and a Kimber magazine as well as the stock ACZT magazine. The stock grip panels have to go! They just "feel" fat. I have a set of checkered diamond panels from Sarcos on the way.

Brought a tape measure, set myself up at 10 yards and got ready to fire. It was about 3:30 Saturday, sun set at 4:30, so not much range time Sad

First shot was center circle, quarter inch away from the center cross!

I then proceeded to shoot 15 additional shots (both magazines) in a fruitless attempt to duplicate the first shot LOL. My shots were all low and in bunches. Ill post the disgraceful results when I take a pic of the target.

Definitely different from shooting my old 9MM P95. Gun shoots better than me. Only shot 50 rounds, but had no issues with ammo or the gun. Got the 45 dies on Wednesday, now have to get primer, powder and bullets to reload; this 45 is gonna be an expensive to practice proposition, but man lots of fun!!

The RIA's have a checkered backstrap now? Damn, I have the same model as you, but mine's a few years old and just hast the vertical lines (I forget what they're called) on the backstrap. I would much prefer the checkering.

How much are the RIA tacticals going for now? (If you don't mind me asking)

The RIA tacticals are going for around $400-450. I sold my Ruger P95, Blackhawk holster, Uncle Mikes IWB holster, and 250 rounds of 9MM for $380 in order to buy this. I saw the RIA Tactical 2011's but they didnt look like 1911's with the rail on the pistol.

The checkering is pretty aggressive, which I like! Wish the front of the handle had checkering instead of the vertical lines. Im getting walnut diamond-checkered grip panels to replace the smooth grips on it now from my cousin.

Yes I did, thank you. The job I did on on my Ruger was much better though Sad I was having trouble seeing the front site and lining things up, so I wanted a high viz color to contrast the rear site.

You can get a standard GI 1911 Rock Island for about $360 if you shop around a bit. I'm currently eyeballing the Rock Island Tactical II in 10mm.

You can, and It's a good one too. I actually traded my Glock for a RIA 1911 and never looked back.
