I haven't found anything other than one article claiming it was signed. Everything else says it was shelved until next year. Even if it wasn't shelved, it would be political suicide to sign it this close to an election. Not to mention that even if it was signed, it would need to be ratified by the US Senate to be binding. The Senate isn't dumb enough to vote on this. Harry Reid isn't the most pro gun politician out there but he's certainly not the most anti gun. He wouldn't allow a vote on it.

The treaty was shelved, but then immediately they started on restrictions of ammunition via committee. They havent given up on their "dream".

If this is true there will be SEVERE repercussions. I think this would be the breaking point for MANY people.

Back in July, it failed to make it out of committee because of huge pressure brought to bear on US officials. Congrats to all those who contacted the WH, State Dept, and legislators.

The bad news is that in August, they decided to try to accomplish the same goals using an existing program called the "Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects". http://www.poa-iss.org/poa/poahtml.aspx

With the program, they can "recommend" things like registry of all handguns. Member countries are supposed to adopt these rules. But this has less enforcement power than a treaty would. In fact, I think it would have no enforcement power without US law to back it up, but I don't know for sure.

I know this has been stated thousands of times, but we need to withdraw from the UN. The Founding Fathers did not intend for the United States to be ran by a new world order. Any type of legislation, law, or any other legal document(s) passed in the UN should not alter American citizens' lives. We did not vote for these "officials", and they clearly do not represent the American people. To have somebody from outside the United States try to dictate to Americans what they can and cannot do is clear violation of our constitutional rights. The UN violates our balance of powers (Executive, judicial, legislative branches). I can understand having a place where countries can get together to discuss and sort out their diferences, but the UN is not a place to propose and implement legislation.
